Dubrovnik… Old World Beauty & Charm

Dubrovnik, named the “Pearl of the Adriatic” is a fortified city, paved with shiny limestone, and surrounded by massive stone walls built in the 16th century. This beautiful city lies on the sparkling Adriatic Sea and is filled with museums, churches, fountains, shops and restaurants, all boasting spectacular architecture.

We stayed at Dubdrovnik Old Town & SeaView Airbnb, a mere 350 steps directly down to Dubrovnik Old Town and a mere 350 steps back up to an astonishing Adriatic sea-view.

Cruising Croatia’s Dalmation Coast

All Aboard For a Spectacular Cruise with Yacht Getaways

We were welcomed aboard by Skipper Ed and First Mate Ben.The 6 other guests aboard included our new friends from London, Scotland, Australia and Macedonia. Our small world of nations all shared the love of the sea, sunshine, adventure, history, and fun loving people.

Mijet Island

We cruised from Dubrovnik to Mijet Island, where we all bonded over dinner and beverages at Stella Maris Restaurant, while cheering for Croatia in the finals of the 2018 World Cup.

Badija Island

As we approached this stunning rock beach island, we were greeted by a 14th century Franciscan Monastary, and wandering deer that roamed in and out of the dark green pine forests.

Stand Up Paddle Boarding at it’s finest. Be sure to wear a Floating Croakie to save your sunglasses. Some of us learned the hard way!

Korčula

When ancient Greeks settled in 6 BC, they named the island of Korčula “Black Corfu,” after their homeland and the area’s dark green pine forests.  Some biographers believe that Marco Polo was born on the island of Korčula, which was part of the Venetian Republic at the time of his birth in 1254. Korčula Town was built later in the 15th century.

After an afternoon of exploring Korcula Town, we climbed the exterior stairs and interior ladder to reach the terrace at the top of the medeival Zakerjan Tower of Massimo’s Cocktail Bar. Great place, Great people, Great drinks & an Amazing sunset.

Živjeli (Cheers)

Solta

Maslinica, meaning “where the olives are”, is a charming coastal village in Solta. We anchored in Šešula Bay and dinghyed to Restaurant Konoba Šešula for a fun-filled dinner.

During our week of sailing along the the Dalmation Coast of Croatia, we woke each morning to fresh brewed coffee and a breakfast spread, followed by a swim, paddle boarding, snorkeling, and a magnificent full course lunch. Each afternoon, we pulled anchor and sailed to the next destination, followed by more time spent in the refreshing water.  Skipper Ed made dinner reservations each night and we were able to enjoy the delicious Croatian cuisine. Our group ate, drank, laughed, joked, sang, danced, read, sunbathed, and totally relaxed. Sailing off the beaten path in Croatia will always rank as one of our fondest memories. Thank you Skipper Ed and First Mate Ben for your good nature, expertise and dedication.
